Pwint Thit Sa Report 2024

Pwint Thit Sa has been encouraging Myanmar businesses to improve their transparency practices since 2014. The objective of the Pwint Thit Sa report is to incentivize better corporate disclosure of corporate governance and non-financial information by Myanmar companies through publicly recognising them for their transparency. Companies are assessed against regional and international disclosure criteria (more information here).  The 2024 assessment will include 14 new criteria are, bringing the total to 160.

The assessment will again be conducted by Myanmar Centre for Responsible Businesses and Yever, a leading Myanmar business consultancy, which will work for the fifth time pro bono on the assessments of Myanmar companies’ online disclosure.

Companies in Myanmar are currently struggling with many challenges. Good corporate governance, which includes accurate and timely communication, is even more important in times of crisis. Companies in Myanmar can use corporate websites to disclose information about governance, policies, ownership and activities (including previous activities which a company has exited), to manage stakeholder risk. This is particularly important at a time when rumours and misinformation can impact the reputation of a company and the safety of its employees.

Transparency by companies also contributes to improving governance in Myanmar more widely, including through better informed media reporting of Myanmar's economy.

Pwint Thit Sa reports have also summarised information about regulation and trends relating to corporate governance and disclosure in Myanmar, the Asian region, and globally.   The most recent update on the Myanmar regulatory framework was included in the 2020Pwint Thit Sa report.

Why ‘Pwint Thit Sa’?

These reports by Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business (MCRB) began in 2014 under the name ‘Transparency in Myanmar Enterprises’ (TiME).  They were inspired by the work of Transparency International on Transparency in CorporateReporting.  But MCRB wanted to find a more memorable Myanmar name that captured the budding reform spirit of the time.  Pwint Thit Sa, meaning ‘new blooms’, was chosen.  And that is why every Pwint Thit Sa report has a flower.
